Activity 1: Establish communication protocols
Description of the activity
This activity requires you to establish communication protocols and prepare guidelines to adapt communication protocols to suit various contexts.
To do so, you are required to:
• Develop or structure communication protocol(s) to meet organisational information needs and goals (As given in the case study).
o Analyse internal and external information needs relevant to the workplace (As given in the case study).
o Following below given organisational requirements when developing communication protocols:
Organisational requirements:
• The communication protocols must be prepared using ‘Template 1’ Provided.
• The communication protocols must include the following information.
o Message/Area of discussion
o Communicator
o Audience
o Frequency
• Prepare ‘Tipsheets’ using ‘Template 2’ provided. Include strategies in the tipsheets to adapt and implement communication protocols to suit the following contexts:
o Employees from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds
o Employees that have English as a second language
o Employees having a disability
o Employees with low language and literacy skills

To successfully complete Activity 1, you will need to demonstrate to your Assessor that you have:
a) Structured communication protocols in such a way that met the organisational information needs and goals (as given in the case study).
b) Analysed internal and external information needs.
c) Adapted and implemented communication protocols to suit various contexts.
d) Knowledge of cross-cultural communication
