3.12 Checking in With Facebook (Objs. 1, 3)
With over 1.06 billion monthly active users, Facebook is currently the largest social networking site. It is still growing, not in the United States, but globally, mainly in Latin America, Japan, India, and some African countries. You may be surprised to hear that Brazil contributed 16 million new users within a mere six months, a 46 percent increase. Argentina’s presence grew by almost 1.5 million, and Mexicans made up 4.6 million new users. The growth is currently stalling in the United States, where Facebook users decreased 1 percent. In Asia, Japanese Facebook users grew a whopping 85 percent and Vietnam added 52 percent new users over a recent six month period, while China’s Facebook use declined almost 4 percent.
